The static file has 159 entries: 93 use six different letters and 66 repeat at least one letter. Counting A/E/I/O/U only, 31 entries have one vowel, 111 have two, and 17 have three.

The remaining 11 records spread across SL, SW, SY, SK, and SQ — three or fewer entries each — so a confirmed second letter in that range nearly solves the list by itself.
S loves consonant clusters
90 of the 159 records put a consonant in the second slot — ST, SP, SH, SC, SL, SW, SK, and SQ — while only 66 follow S with a vowel and three use Y (sylvan, symbol, system). Among published lists here, that ratio is unusual: B keeps just 16 of 78 in clusters, and M has none at all.
This changes probe strategy after a green S. Testing a vowel in position 2 is a weaker move than usual, because the most likely families — ST and SP — put their first vowel in position 3 or later. A T probe is stronger: beyond the 38 ST records, T appears somewhere in many SE, SO, and SI words, so even a yellow T narrows several families at once.
The one-vowel corner is also unusually large: 31 entries, including string, strong, struck, splash, shrewd, and switch. When several vowels are already gray, S plus a cluster is one of the few productive directions left.
SATIRE, STRIDE, and the coverage view
Sorted by this site’s letter-coverage score, the top six-distinct-letter entries are satire (98), stride (96), sander (95), sortie (95), and sorted (94). SATIRE is the same word that ranks first by entropy in the site’s starter-word experiment, so a green S keeps some of the best information-gathering guesses in play. The score is a letter-coverage heuristic inside this data version, not an answer probability.
Worked filter: four candidates from three clues
Suppose S is green in position 1, N was yellow in position 3, A and E are both gray, and the board rules out repeated letters. Enter:

- Exclude letters: AE
- Repeated letters: No repeated letters
Against the current 159-record file, exactly four candidates remain: string, strong, spring, and siphon. N:3 requires an N outside position 3; the exclusions remove every word containing A or E. The result is reproducible in the finder above.
Doubled letters worth knowing
23 records double a letter side by side. LL and EE lead with six entries each — sallow, scroll, shells, skills, stroll, sullen and seeing, seeker, seemed, speech, speeds, street — followed by DD (sadden, sudden), OO (school, soothe), and TT (setter, settle). If duplicate feedback arrives with a green S, those five pairs cover most of the story: EE hides in the middle of SE- and SP- words, while LL sits at the end of its group almost every time.
Using the list outside Wordle
For crosswords, start from the clue meaning and use the second-letter families to enforce the pattern: a known T or H after S jumps straight to the ST or SH group. For vocabulary practice, the cluster families make natural study sets — ST alone spans stable to string with 38 stops in between.
