A green first-tile T splits its list three ways: vowel second letters (TA, TE, TI, TO, TU), the TR cluster, and the TH digraph. The current file holds 74 six-letter words starting with T, and knowing which of those three branches you are in does most of the narrowing.
A quick T-word shortlist
For six different letters, the answer pool includes theory, traced, trader, travel, tender, toward, and turnip. If the tiles allow a repeat, the pool also has treaty, tipped, taller, tunnel, throne, and thrown. Treat these as candidates to test, not predictions.

What the T data contains
The static file has 74 entries, split exactly down the middle: 37 with six distinct letters and 37 with at least one repeat. No other published list here lands on a perfect half-and-half. Counting A/E/I/O/U, 12 entries have one vowel, 53 have two, and 9 have three.
| Opening | Entries | Details visible in the data |
|---|---|---|
| TA | 16 | The broadest group; only 7 avoid repeats |
| TR | 14 | 8 have six different letters, 8 are in the answer pool |
| TH | 11 | Includes theory, throne, thrown, thumbs |
| TO | 9 | 6 have six different letters |
| TE | 8 | Only teapot avoids a repeated letter |
| TI | 7 | 4 have six different letters |
| TU | 7 | turban, turnip, turned among others |
| TY | 2 | Only typing and tyrant |
A green second-tile R or H is decisive here: TR and TH together hold 25 records, and both families put their first vowel in position 3 or later. A yellow H with T green is nearly as strong, since H appears mostly inside the TH block.
The repeat problem, starring TATTOO
T attracts duplicates. Thirteen records double a letter side by side — LL in taller, thrall, trills, PP in tipped, topper, topple, OO in tattoo, toothy — and tattoo is the compact extreme: three Ts and a double O in six tiles. TE is the quiet trap of the file: seven of its eight records repeat a letter (teapot is the exception), thanks to entries like teemed, tenant, tender, tested, and tether.
Practical rule: if T is green and a second T shows anything but gray, set T:2 under minimum counts before touching other filters. If a probe T comes back gray while the first stays green, record T:1 as a maximum instead of excluding T — an exclusion would wipe the whole list.
Coverage picks after a green T
By this site’s letter-coverage score, the strongest six-distinct-letter entries are tensor (97), tinder (95), tirade (95), toiler (93), and trends (93). TENSOR and TIRADE test E, R, S/N, and other high-frequency letters immediately after the fixed T. As always, the score is a coverage heuristic inside this data version, not an answer probability.
Worked filter: three candidates from two clues
Suppose T is green, R was yellow in position 3, E is confirmed gray, and repeats are ruled out. Enter:
- Yellow letters: R:3
- Exclude letters: E
- Repeated letters: No repeated letters
The current 74-record file leaves exactly three candidates: tailor, toward, and trough. Each contains an R outside position 3 and no E. The result is reproducible in the finder above; add one more confirmed tile and the list collapses to one.
Using the list outside Wordle
For crossword patterns, the second-letter table is the fastest entry point: a known A after T jumps to 16 candidates, a known Y to two. For vocabulary work, the TR and TH families group naturally — TR runs from traced to trudge, and TH from thatch to thwart.

Frequently asked questions
How many six-letter T words are in this list?
The current accepted-guess data contains 74 six-letter words starting with T. Of those, 36 also appear in this site's 682-word answer pool.
Which second letter has the most T-starting entries?
TA is the largest group with 16 records, followed by TR with 14 and TH with 11. TY is the smallest with just typing and tyrant.
How many T words contain repeated letters?
Exactly half: 37 of the 74 records repeat at least one letter and 37 use six distinct letters. TATTOO is the extreme case with three Ts and a double O.
How should I filter after a green T?
Check whether the second tile is a vowel, R, or H first — that split covers the whole file. Then enter yellow letters with their forbidden positions, exclude confirmed gray letters, and use count bounds only when duplicate feedback proves them.
