6 Letter Words With the Most Vowels

Vowel-hunting is the oldest Wordle opening theory, and this page puts real numbers on it. Of the site’s 1,485 accepted guesses, 401 six-letter words carry three or more vowels — 382 with exactly three, and just 19 with four. The full list is below, filterable by position, letters, and repeats.

The complete four-vowel club

Every four-vowel entry in the current data, in one place: aaliis, acacia, acajou, aerial, aerobe, agorae, agouti, aikido, airier, arouse, auntie, aviate, bureau, cookie, league, odious, queued, rookie, unique. Two things stand out. Most are obscure — a reason this site’s answer pool admits only a few of them, like cookie and unique — and most repeat a letter: queued manages four vowels only by doubling its U and E.

What vowel loading actually buys you

The static file has 401 entries: only 157 use six different letters, while 244 — six in ten — repeat at least one letter. That is the hidden cost of vowel-heavy openers: a repeated letter re-tests something you would learn anyway, so many of these words spend their six tiles on five or fewer facts.

The doubled letters make the point concrete. EE appears in 21 records (agreed, asleep, breeze, career, coffee…), OO in 13 (bamboo, cookie, indoor, looked…), and even AA, II, and UU show up — aahing, aaliis, vacuum. Vowel-rich English words lean on doubled vowels, and doubled anything is weak probe material on a blank board.

A is the gateway letter: 127 of the 401 records start with A, more than the next three starting letters combined. E-starting entries are scarcer (19) but nearly all answer-pool quality — 17 of the 19, including either, enable, engine, escape.

Three vowels, six distinct letters: the sweet spot

Filter this list to six distinct letters and the top of the coverage ranking reads retain (98), satire (98), sortie (95), tirade (95), reason (94), and raised (93). That profile — three vowels spread across six different letters — is exactly what the site’s starter-word experiment rewards: SATIRE ranks first there by entropy. The four-vowel entries never approach these scores, because their repeats and rare letters cost more than the extra vowel earns.

154 of the site’s 682 answers appear in this list, so vowel-heavy words are far from mere probe material — but the answers cluster in the three-vowel, few-repeats region: beauty, couple, orange, people, source, nature.

Worked filter: four candidates from three clues

Suppose R came back yellow in position 6, and E and S are both confirmed gray, with repeats ruled out. Enter:

• Yellow letters: R:6
• Exclude letters: ES
• Repeated letters: No repeated letters

Against the current 401-record file, four candidates remain: adroit, ordain, ritual, and around. Each holds an R away from the final position, avoids E and S, and still carries three vowels. The result is reproducible in the finder above.

When to reach for this list

Use it on a blank board when several consonant-heavy guesses have failed and you need vowels resolved in one move; use it late when confirmed tiles already include two vowels and you suspect a third. Between those moments, the letter-frequency analysis and the starter experiment are usually better guides, and the repeated-letter rules explain how to read duplicate feedback when an EE or OO word is in play.
